COLORSTEEL® MAXAM™ is a versatile single substrate solution suitable for various environments, including coastal areas, inland locations, geothermal zones, and industrial settings. This innovative product eliminates the guesswork and confusion often associated with selecting the right roofing and cladding material. The only exception to its suitability is extremely severe or aggressive environments, where COLORSTEEL ALTIMATE® may be more appropriate.

Strategic Positioning: The aluminium/zinc/magnesium compounds in the coating are strategically positioned to activate at the start of weathering, providing sacrificial protection when it is most needed.

How ACTIVATE™ Technology Works

ACTIVATE™ technology isn’t just about the inclusion of aluminium, zinc, and magnesium; it’s about the unique composition and microstructure of the AM alloy coating that significantly enhances corrosion resistance. Here’s how it works:

The aluminium/zinc/magnesium compounds are strategically positioned in the coating to activate during the early stages of weathering, providing critical sacrificial protection.
Magnesium compounds help form a more robust barrier at cuts and scratches, slowing down the rate of corrosion.
The magnesium compounds also activate the metal coating, resulting in more effective and longer-lasting sacrificial protection.

With these features, COLORSTEEL® MAXAM™ ensures that your roofing and cladding remain durable and resilient, no matter the environmental conditions.

Maxam™ is suitable to be manufactured into roofing, wall cladding, rainwater goods and accessories within the constraints detailed by manufacturers literature and New Zealand Building Code (NZBC) requirements.

COLORSTEEL® Maxam™ pre-painted steel is available in a range of colours. Where a colour is not available, delivery is normally within two to four weeks.

Transitioning to the Future

The standout feature of COLORSTEEL® MAXAM™ is the proprietary ACTIVATE™ technology, a high-performance AM metallic coating designed to deliver superior corrosion resistance. This coating is applied to the base steel before the COLORSTEEL® paint system is added.

Traditionally, COLORSTEEL® has utilized an AZ alloy coating composed of 55% aluminium and 45% zinc. This combination provides both barrier protection from aluminium and sacrificial protection from zinc. The new high-performance AM metallic alloy coating takes this a step further by incorporating magnesium.

The New Zealand Building Code (BIA B2.3.1 Durability) has indicated that non-structural roofing shall have a minimum durability of 15-years (with maintenance). Product selection and the environment of the building location may affect warranty periods.
